How to put together a well rounded modeling portfolio!

As we discussed in a previous post, having a well rounded model portfolio is a paramount aspect in your modeling career. It’s your main selling point when trying to score new work and is the most important thing that agents will be looking at when searching for models for their campaigns. Today we will be discussing how to build that perfect modeling portfolio.

The most common question we get at Kevin Day Photography is “What types of photos should I be putting into my portfolio?”. 

To answer that question there’s only one word that comes to mind, VARIETY. 

You want a mixture of shots, this is your time to showcase your versatility. Always show a variety of outfits, these can be from formal to athleisure, clean cut to edgy. Let the agents see that you can work with any brand, fashion or commercial. Clients when booking models can’t always visualize how a model is going to look in a particular style or fashion. They are in business and might not be the creative type. This goes for hair and makeup as well. Make sure you are not serving the same look throughout your entire portfolio. And remember to include at least one photo with a full smile, clients love to see your teeth. 

Making sure you have different backgrounds throughout the portfolio is also a necessary factor. Always have a good blend of outdoor and studio shots. Also make sure that some are full length, ¾ length and headshots. Which we will make sure you have from us. So don’t worry on this part!
