TOP 5 THINGS TO REMEMBER IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA.

Whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned model, actor, first time having your pic taken for work, there are always five things someone should remember in front of the camera. So here’s my 2020 TOP 5 recommendations every person should do during a photoshoot:

5. Don’t overthink it! Your photography session, no matter if it’s a modeling or headshot session, should always be a fun experience. The less someone tells you what to do in the photo, the more natural and unforced the picture will most likely come out. Try not to get too much in your head and always feel free to tell the photographer what would make your photoshoot more comfortable.

4. Make sure to listen to the photographer for pointers and tips. Usually at the beginning of each photoshoot, especially if it’s your first time in front of the camera, I always give the model advice on how to move and things to avoid doing. For example, a lot of models if you’re a woman tend to resort to placing their hands on their hips as a comfort zone; for male models, it tends to be putting their hands in their pockets. Make sure to avoid constantly doing this so your photographs come out more diverse and, if needed, the photographer will help you with pose adjustments throughout your photoshoot. 

3. Try out different facial expressions. Make sure you are not giving the same face throughout your entire photography session. The kind of photoshoot you do can determine both how you pose and what kind of facial expression you use. For example, if you’re doing more of a high fashion photoshoot, you’ll probably want to have more serious facial expressions where as if you’re doing a more commercial photoshoot, you may want to smile or laugh out loud more. To make a more diverse portfolio, also keep mixing up facial expressions with any wardrobe, background, or location change so once you select your final pictures you have a wide array of images. 

2. Remember to always keep moving! Small head tilts, arm positioning, and stance will all help to give variety to your photoshoot. A good key to take away is to change your position after you hear the click of the camera. The more you keep moving the more options of photos you will have to choose from at the end of your model portfolio or headshot session.

1. Be yourself! The more you are yourself the better the images will be. Model agencies, talent agents tend to look for authenticity when casting for photoshoots so what you bring to the table as a model can be unique to only you if you know how to channel it in the right way. And if you are doing the pics for work. Be yourself for any session! It will make all the difference in your photoshoot.
