November 5, 2021Photoshoot Styling Tips for Men
The hardest part as a male model when preparing for a professional photoshoot is figuring out what you should wear and how to style yourself. There aren’t any definite styling rules, but there are several factors you should consider to ensure you look your absolute best in front of the camera.
So, if you’re a young male model struggling to decide what to wear for your photoshoot, here are five of our best photoshoot styling tips for men.
1. Don’t Wear Anything Baggy and Ensure a Snug Fit
Most men tend to wear clothes that are one size too big for them, and that is a problem that models face when preparing for a photography session. You need to find a collared shirt with a snug fit that doesn’t look airy or baggy for your shoot. It doesn’t matter if you’re not buff and are afraid your lack of muscles won’t look good on camera.
2. Look After the Wrinkles on Your Shirt and Jacket
If you’re wearing a shirt and jacket, you must ensure that they are wrinkle-free. You can take out the wrinkles through Photoshop, but fabrics with patterns and textures can’t be retouched properly. The camera catches everything so remember to iron your clothes before the shoot.
3. Pair a Jacket with a Well-Tailored Button-Up Shirt
When picking something to wear for your photoshoot, you can never go wrong with pairing a jacket with a well-tailored button-up shirt. Don’t wear shirts with patterns and no logos unless you’re modeling for a brand that requires you to show their logo. You can wear darker colors if you have gray hair, as it will contrast with your hair and won’t appear washed out.
4. Wear Solids Instead of Patterns
Solids are a better choice instead of patterns, and those with lighter skin tone should avoid wearing pastels because they tend to get washed out under the studio’s bright lights. You should bring one bright and one neutral shirt with you to have more options when shooting. The background in the studio will either be white or gray, which will allow your suit jacket and shirt to contrast with the backdrop.
5. Don’t Be Afraid to Accessorize
Women know how to accessorize, which is why their pictures are so eye-catching. You can take your pictures to the next level with the right accessories. However, you should be selective and choose accessories that don’t overshadow your face. The purpose of the headshot is to highlight your face, and you don’t want to move away from that with a monster tie or a giant chain hanging from your neck.
