CHILDREN'S HEADSHOTS
Boston's Headshot Photographer
It has been 17 years that I have been photographing children. My very first paid job was actually photographing a 5 year old for one of the modeling agencies in Boston. At the time I thought "I don't know how to talk to a kids how will I connect" but how quickly you learn. Now years later children are one of the main types of photography that I do. From headshots for acting or theater headshots to children's modeling portfolios. And that first client I had all those years ago, that modeling agent in Boston, well they are still a regular client after 17 years.
You have found the right photography studio if you are looking to get your kids acting headshots or model portfolio.
Why Do I need a professional headshot for my kids?
Professional headshots are essential for children pursuing acting careers for several reasons:
-
First Impressions: Headshots are often the first point of contact between casting directors and potential talent. They convey professionalism and give casting directors an initial impression of your child's appearance and personality.
-
Representation of Character: A professional photographer can capture your child's personality and potential acting range in their headshots. Different roles require different looks and expressions, and a skilled photographer can bring out those nuances.
-
Industry Standards: The entertainment industry has specific standards for headshots, including formats, sizes, and styles. Professional photographers are familiar with these standards and can ensure that your child's headshots meet industry expectations.
-
Competitive Advantage: In a highly competitive industry, having high-quality headshots can make your child stand out from the crowd. Professional photos demonstrate a commitment to the craft and show that your child takes their acting career seriously.
-
Marketing Tool: Headshots serve as a marketing tool for your child's acting career. They are used on casting websites, in audition submissions, on resumes, and in promotional materials. Professional headshots can help your child make a lasting impression and increase their chances of getting noticed by casting directors and potentially book the job.
-
Investment in Career: Investing in professional headshots is an investment in your child's acting career. While it may seem like an upfront expense, quality headshots can pay off in the long run by opening doors to more auditions and opportunities.
Overall, professional headshots are crucial for children pursuing acting careers because they serve as a visual representation of their talent, professionalism, and potential in the industry. Casting agents do not want to see unprofessional headshots. This shows that you have not taken this seriously.

How often do I need to update my Children's headshot?
A headshot should be current and kept up to date A general rule is every 12 months or as soon as you notice that they don't look like their current headshot any longer. A new haircut or color or style is reason to update your headshot as well. Not keeping your headshot up to date may potentially make you lose work as well as annoy the casting directors. Since you are misrepresenting your child. No casting director wants their time wasted. Always keep your headshot up to date. I can't say it enough!
Keep your child's headshot current!
How do you approach taking headshots for Children?
Taking headshots for children is much in the same as taking headshots for adults. Just a little more energy is needed! Talking to kids about their interests and making them feel comfortable is aways a great way to get some amazing headshots. I try and have an easy going personality and keep the environment light and fun.
Sometimes my dog Millie makes a cameo, especially on weekends. She is always a hit with the kids.
