HEADSHOT PORTFOLIO
HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHER IN BOSTON
Gone are the days that headshots were only for actors and models. In today’s world everyone needs a headshot. A headshot is how you define and showcase yourself to the world. It can be the deciding factor in getting the job or landing a gig. Getting the right headshot is crucial.
Why are professional headshots important in business?
Professional headshots serve many purposes and you and your company can benefit from a professional headshot. Whether you are looking for a job or want to get ahead in your current career, a professional headshot shows that you take your career and job seriously. Using a photo, a friend took or one you took yourself on your phone does not portray professionalism. Showing a prospective employer from the start that you are a professional that cares about their career is a great first step.
Professional headshots are an investment and shouldn’t be skipped. With social media, LinkedIn, we have become a visual society. How you present yourself is the way the world will see you. Make them see the best that you can be, invest in yourself!
Why are professional headshots important in acting?
A headshot is your calling card to the industry. Your headshot will represent you at castings. It can make or break you from getting the job. Putting a professional headshot in front of casting agents will show that you are serious about your acting career and potentially help you book that job.
Movies, TV and commercials all cost a lot of money to produce, by submitting a headshot that is not professional it shows to the agents that you are not serious about acting. If a casting agent can’t see you clearly in your headshot, then you have missed the opportunity and potentially a make or break in your career.
Professional headshots are an investment into an acting career and should never be skipped to save a few dollars. Always put your best foot forward.
What is your approach to taking headshots?
My approach is the same as all the shoots that I do. I want people to feel relaxed and at home. When clients first walk in, I like to discuss with them about what their headshot is for and if there was anything in particular, they would like to do. Such as a studio headshot verse one taken outside. Then I like to explain how the session is going to work. I like to talk to all my clients throughout the shoot. Getting to know each client as they come in, I feel gets people more relaxed, and results in a better headshot. The studio is a casual but professional environment which also helps.
What should I wear for my headshots?
This Is a question that is asked to me a million times. There are some general rules but also what you are taking your headshot for also needs to be considered. See below.
Business Headshots
A corporate headshot should be a clean, clear image that represents who you are. For business headshots you want to think about your profession and how it is represented. For example, lawyers and finance generally are more dressed up with a suit jacket and men with ties. If you work in tech, it is more laid back and a button up shirt, blouse or a sweater works great. Solid colors or small print patterns work best. The general rule, solid colors work best and avoid distracting patterns.
Acting Headshots
As an actor it’s vital that your headshots are professional and representative of your looks, talent, and charisma.
For actors you should bring color. You want your headshot to stand out and solid colors will help you do this. When choosing your clothing choose items that make you look good. Choose flattering colors. Jewel tones work best. You want to avoid white and pastels or anything that washes you out. Lots of agents will also tell you not to wear black.
The general rule, make yourself stand out in your headshot with solid colors.
If you are in doubt with what you should wear for your headshot, bring several items and I am happy to help you with what works best. If you already know what you want to wear that is great to. It is your headshot after all.
How should I prepare for my headshots?
Before your session you should make sure you are drinking plenty of water several days before your shoot to make sure your skin is not dry. Also decide if you would like to have a professional make-up and hair artist or if you would like to do it yourself. We can always book this service for you in advance.
You should also make sure that your clothes have been steamed or ironed prior to your session. Also make sure you allow yourself enough time to get to the session. Stressed and sweaty is not a great way to start your shoot. Better early than late. If we are done with the shoot prior to you, we are happy to take you earlier. But give yourself extra time just in case.
Final thoughts, your headshot represents you, giving people a brief insight on who you are without words. It is also important to keep your headshot up to date. Let’s face it we all change and as we change our headshots should to. We would all love to use a photo from when we were younger, but it is unrealistic. Updating your headshot makes it so people can easily recognize you, in business, in person or on a job. A general rule a headshot should be updated when there is a change in our appearance or every 2 years as we age.
