What should I bring to my model portfolio shoot?

What to bring on the day of the shoot?

Keep in mind you want your model portfolio to be as dynamic as possible. We recommend that you bring a variety of clothing with you to choose from. You will want to select clothing that compliments your skin tone, hair and eye color. You should avoid bringing solid white or fluorescent colored clothing as they are usually reflective and do not photograph well. Try not to bring any pieces that are too loud with patterns or prints and avoid bringing anything with large logos or brand names. Your entire outfit is important from head to toe so be sure to bring a variety of shoes and/or accessories that can go with various looks. Also make sure all your clothing is cleaned and pressed before your shoot. If you are in doubt bring more than less. We will help you pick out what will work best from what you bring. Keep in mind as you put your clothes together, you are the focus of your portfolio not your clothes. They should enhance your model portfolio but not dominate your look.

What’s the benefit of a wardrobe stylist?

If you need assistance with wardrobe or personal styling, feel free to book an appointment with one of our wardrobe stylists before your shoot. The wardrobe stylist will be able to go shopping specifically for you and create different outfits and looks for your model portfolio on the day of your shoot. Personal styling will enhance your photos and give you that extra special professional touch. We recommend booking this appointment at least 5 days before your scheduled shoot. 

What’s the benefit of make-up and hair stylists?

If you want to look your very best we also suggest hiring one of our on site make-up and hair stylists. Having professional make-up and hair done for your model portfolio will always make your pictures stand out more to the agencies. All of our artists are skilled and licenced and most have worked directly with Kevin for multiple years. There are some major benefits from having an on site artist as opposed to going to a counter or salon before the shoot. The stylist at Kevin Day Photography know how much makeup to use for each lighting condition that Kevin will use during your shoot. With each look they will be able to change up your hair and makeup, another key factor in a diverse model portfolio. Whether we are shooting indoors or outside you want your face and hair to compliment the clothing and style created in each look.
