Why have a professional headshot?
December 13, 2019How to put together a well rounded modeling portfolio!
January 16, 2020What to expect on your child’s first model portfolio?
After choosing the model portfolio package that’s right for you, you’re probably left wondering what to expect and how best to prepare for the day of the photo shoot. Here’s a breakdown of what to anticipate.
Children often can be either excited or nervous (or sometimes both) for their model portfolio session, especially the first time around. Try and talk to them before the modeling shoot. Let them know what’s going to happen and what will be expected of them. This tends to be very helpful with children. And most importantly, let them know that this will be a fun experience!
Show them images of children in catalogs, clothing websites or show them pictures of other models on Kevindayphotography.com so they can have an idea of how to pose for their images. Practice by taking a few images at home with your camera or phone so they become comfortable in front of the lens. Have them play around with serious poses and fun poses, make a game out of it.
Keep in mind that you want your child’s model portfolio to be as dynamic as possible. We recommend that you bring a variety of clothing with you to choose from. You will want to select clothing that compliments their skin tone, hair and eye color. You should avoid bringing solid white or fluorescent colored clothing as they are usually reflective and do not photograph well. Try not to bring any pieces that are too loud with patterns or prints and avoid bringing anything with large logos or brand names. Your child’s entire outfit is important from head to toe so be sure to bring a variety of shoes and/or accessories that can go with various looks. Weather permitting we will be taking photos outside as well as in the studio, so remember to pack accordingly. Most people will pack a small suitcase or duffel bag with 5-10 outfit choices. Also make sure all clothing is cleaned and pressed before the shoot.
We will roughly be taking 100+ photos in each “look” on the day of the shoot to ensure that the agents will have enough images to work with. Bringing snacks and beverages with you on the day of the model portfolio shoot is always a good idea. Shoots can often take longer than kids have patience for.
Girls and boys with long hair should come with it clean and dry. Bring plenty of hair accessories as well. The parent or guardian will be responsible for dressing and styling their child. If you would like, we have hair/makeup and personal stylist for hire.
Remember, creating your child’s model portfolio and headshot should be a fun, exciting and not stressful at all.
